Move to Kenya, August 1992
I was a regular 10 year old kid enjoying the hot Portuguese summer when my parents told my sister and I that we were moving to Kenya. Now, remember this is 1992, there is no internet, let alone Google. I had no idea where or what Kenya was about, the only clue was a National Geographic magazine showing a picture of Lake Nakuru full of oink flamingos. I will not get into detail (now) but let me tell you I absolutely fell in love with Africa.
Boarding School, August 1997
Fast forward 5 years, I can now speak fluent English and together with my parents, we decided that to improve my chances of success, I should go to a boarding school in the UK. So off I went alone at 15 years old to Stonyhurst College 11,000 km away. I had 3 awesome years at a Hogwarts lookalike where I thought I had learnt how to be a man.
University of East Anglia, September 2000
After miraculously finishing my A-Levels with acceptable grades, I decided to read Economics at UEA in Norwich, England. I was never a good student in the sense that I did not liked to study and so didn’t, I almost never did my homework and but somehow, managed to get by.
My university life was pure fun and parties (more details to come in the near future) and, once again, miraculously managed to achieve acceptable grades again and completing my degree.
